Back to Basics proudly presents Unity Music Studios to 25 Toronto St. downtown Barrie!
We have just leased space at 25 Toronto Street to start Barrie's first Local Food and Arts Market starting July 1st! The property will also include artist studio space, a fully equipped music and recording studio and the headquarters for Andrew Miller's provincial Green Party campaign. The goal of the site is to provide space for music and art workshops
Back to Basics hopes the Toronto Street location, tentatively named the Unity Art Studio and Market, will become an integral part of the Barrie cultural landscape by providing a venue that allows creativity to flourish in an accessible and dynamic environment. Musicians will have access to studio facilities and practice areas for $15.00/hr, while artists will have the option of renting a private office space for $500-700/month or a desk in a shared area for $300/month. Leases will be flexible, with both short and long term options available, to reflect the fluid nature of many artistic endeavors. The art and produce market will offer another avenue for public involvement, encouraging interaction between the artistic and broader communities. Local artists will be featured, their work offered on consignment, and organic produce will be supplied fresh and in season from our urban gardens, making the market a place to feed both body and soul. The Artists at Risk initiative, dedicated to the support of struggling artists through instruction and mentor-ship programs, will also allow for increased community involvement and dialogue.
We are excited to embark on this new venture, but are in need of assistance in implementing the full scope of our vision for this site. Donations of equipment, art supplies and time are sought, as are short and long term financial sponsorships and partnerships. If you are able to contribute toward the development or upkeep of the Unity Studio in any fashion, please contact our team. Any and all offers are much appreciated!
